Acquired Facial Deformities
Overview
These are changes to the facial structure that occur after birth. They can result from trauma (like accidents or burns), diseases (like cancer), or surgical procedures to treat other conditions.

These can result from a wide range of events, including traumatic injuries from accidents, burns, or assaults. Medical conditions such as skin cancer, Bell's palsy, or infections can also alter facial features. Additionally, some surgical procedures to treat other conditions can result in facial deformities.
Treatment is highly specific to the cause and extent of the deformity. It may involve reconstructive surgery with skin grafts and flaps, scar revision, laser therapy, or prosthetics. Physical and occupational therapy are often required to restore function, and psychological support is crucial.
Beyond the physical changes, acquired deformities can bring significant psychological and emotional challenges, including PTSD from trauma, body image issues, and social anxiety. Re-integrating into social and professional life can be a major hurdle.
